Secure your System

Introduction

This section aims to help you, the user, understand the three most important aspects of keeping a secure system, actually perform these tasks, and keep on top of them.

Motivation for this Site

Port Scan Experience shows many people do not understand the 3 basic things required to stay safe, even experienced users may only understand a few of the aspects of security. The idea for this site is to show those who do not know how easy it is to stay secure; how quick it is to secure your system; and how cheap it is - Free!

The image to the right shows one thing that is really annoying me at the moment. As can be seen, in just 1 minute and 33 seconds I was port scanned by another user of my ISP 8 times. This continues throughout the whole of my session, 2 hours? 3 hours? If I was connected to my maximum 7 hours, I would be port scanned for 7 hours. Basically a port scan is when multiple ports are scanned on your PC, usually by an infected user. When they became infected, a file will be activated which tries to spread by finding users with the same hole in their system. If it finds it, it infects. If you don't have Windows Updates or a firewall, this could be you.
